My P90X Review: February 3, 2009 was day my husband and I started P90X! I remember that day like it was yesterday, starting Chest and Back DVD in and wondering how I would even get through 1 push up let a lone the whole workout! We had done the fit test the day before and I didn’t do so well, so knew I was out of my league here, but if you know me, you know I love a challenge! I’m a very competitive person, so if I give myself a goal, I will do my best to accomplish it!
That first day was very difficult for both my husband and me, but we encourage one another to keep pushing. I had to modify all the push ups and use bands for the pull ups since I couldn’t even lift my body off the ground with the pull up bar. We had to pause the DVD many times to catch up and catch our breath. By the end of Chest and Back we were soaking wet and our limbs felt like jello but we still had to do Ab Ripper X. WOW! Talk about an ab burning workout!! I could barely get up off the floor after that one! I was exhausted but I felt absolutely amazing knowing what I just accomplished!
Then came Plyometrics! We had no idea what we were in for! My husband and I still talk about our first experience with Plyo and how it kicked our butts! Boy were we out of shape! I remember thinking I couldn’t do any more then looking up at the timer only to find out we had 45 minutes left, HA!! Plyo is no joke!! I have to give it up for Tony Horton too! Not only is he hilarious but he is an awesome motivator! He makes you realize that no matter what level of fitness you’re in, you can do this as long as you keep pushing play and BRING IT every time! If you follow these simple rules, you will be on your way to amazing results! So that’s what we did! For 90 days we stuck to the program and committed ourselves 100%!
To be honest though, in order to commit 100%, you must commit to the diet as well! Diet is 80% of any workout program!! My results would not be what they are today if it weren’t for the Nutrition Guide that comes with P90X. The Nutrition guide taught me the importance of a healthy diet and showed me how to eat, what to eat and when to eat. There are 3 phases to P90X, each being 30 days and the diet is designed to go hand in hand with the workouts. The Nutrition guide explains how many calories and % of fat/carbs/protein that you should be consuming in each phase. You will increase the amount of carbohydrates you take in as you progress through each phase. The diet may be very different from what you’re used, but trust me, it’s very important to follow if you want to get awesome results!
A few things to keep in mind before you begin your P90X journey. Don’t ever worry about pausing the DVD! In the beginning you most likely wont be able to keep up with the trainers. Pausing the DVD allows you to go at your own pace which allows you to push yourself to do each rep to failure. This is very important!!! The last 3 reps should burn, this is how your muscles begin to build. Each week you will see progress, and will slowly get away from the modified versions and do the unassisted versions. Remember, though, that even in the beginning you need to make sure that you attempt the unassisted versions first! Make sure you always go until you can’t go anymore! Never quit, keep pushing play and BRING IT!!!!!
My overall P90X review, I love it!! It changed my life and got me on the road to a fit, healthy happy lifestyle!!
